The iPhone 16 is a great smartphone, but sometimes technical glitches do happen. Something similar happened to me when my new iPhone 16, which was still in the warranty period, suddenly stopped working. The screen went black, was not charging, and none of the buttons were working. At first I panicked, but then I followed some practical steps that got my phone back on again. If you also face a similar problem, here is my personal experience that may be useful to you.
1. Restart Phone
When my iPhone 16 died, I was quite upset as it is my primary phone, which I use for day-to-day activities like communication, investment, paying bills, booking rides, ordering food, etc.
As published by iPhone users on the Apple discussion forum, I first tried to restart the phone. Many users suggested rebooting the phone to fix the issue, and for this, I pressed the power button of phone for 5 seconds, but it failed to restart. I did this for 2-3 times but got no luck!
2. Charged the Phone
Next, I tried to charge my iPhone 16. I thought the battery of the phone was 100% exhausted, and it’s best to charge it. I used the standard Apple’s original 20W charger, plugged in to phone and waited for 30 minutes. After that I tried to turn it on, but the phone didn’t start. Someone suggested to me on X, use a 30W power adapter instead of 20W, as the iPhone 16 supports charging speeds of up to 27 watts. But again failed to restart the phone!
3. Check port and Try Branded Type-C Cable
A user on Quora suggested trying to use a different branded cable. I had an alternate cable at my home, I tried this cable, but still got no luck. The charger and cable were okay as they were charging my iPhone 15 Plus, it now confirmed the issue is with my iPhone 16. Even I checked the ports, I cleaned the charging port with a soft brush and connected the type-c cable. The phone did not turn on and there was no indication that the phone was charging.
4. Apple Customer Care
So now I called Apple customer care and explained everything in detail. I mentioned I purchased the iPhone 16 on that day, this is my name, this is my bill no, and all other related details they required to confirm you are a genuine owner of the iPhone and the phone warranty is valid. They asked a few questions like:
- Did you try to reboot the phone? I said yes
- Did you try to charge the phone? I said yes
- Did you use the genuine Apple charger? Yes
- Did you check the cable? I said yes, no issue with the cable
- Did you drop the phone? I said no
So after that, they said you have to bring the phone to the Apple Care center or you can send it via courier.
As I live in Delhi, I booked an appointment and went to Future World, Connaught Place with my iPhone 16. There, the team checked it thoroughly and found that the battery was not charging. They also checked the Type-C port & Power/Volume buttons and found everything was fine, the only issue was with the battery. As my iPhone was under warranty, there was no physical damage. I got my phone battery replaced for free, and now it is working fine.
Because my iphone 16 was under warranty and there was no sign of physical damage or accident drop, I saved Rs 9,800. The new battery cost is around ₹9800 and I paid zero.
Conclusion: Don’t panic, try these steps
Now, my iPhone is charging properly with my standard 20W charger and provides a full day’s battery backup. It also charges seamlessly when I use the 12V USB port in my car. After monitoring it closely for seven days, I haven’t encountered any issues. The problems I faced earlier were entirely due to a faulty battery, which the Apple service center replaced under warranty for free since there was no evidence of physical damage.
Also I would like to share one more thing, when I went to Apple service center in Delhi, there I met a person who was also in the same situation. But his phone’s battery was damaged due to a drop, and since Apple doesn’t cover physical damage, it wasn’t eligible for a warranty replacement. However, he did purchase Apple care+, which got his iPhone 16 Pro battery replaced for free!
If your iPhone 16 suddenly stops working, don’t panic. First try options like force restart, charging check, and cable check. If the problem persists, contact Apple Support. Take advantage of the warranty and avoid going to unauthorized repair shops. My experience may help you and you can restart your iPhone without much hassle.
