Apple has confirmed that iOS 27 will be available from September 14, bringing one of the biggest Siri changes in years alongside broader Apple Intelligence updates and a range of everyday iPhone improvements.
The headline feature is Siri AI. Apple says the new assistant is designed to understand personal context, recognise what is happening on screen, answer broader questions and work more naturally across apps. Apple’s current India software page says Siri AI is rolling out in English, while availability can vary by device, language and region.
When will iOS 27 be released?
Apple’s India website lists September 14 as the public release date for iOS 27. The update will be available through Settings > General > Software Update on compatible iPhones.
Independent coverage from The Verge, MacRumors, and Gadgets 360 also confirms the September 14 rollout. Because major iOS releases can arrive gradually, users should not worry if the update does not appear on every device at exactly the same minute.
What changes with Siri AI?
Siri AI is much more than a visual redesign. Apple says it can use personal context from information such as messages, mail and photos, understand content that is currently on screen, and answer questions using broader world knowledge. Apple has also introduced a dedicated Siri app where users can revisit conversations.
The assistant can be used by voice or text and is more deeply integrated with writing tools and Visual Intelligence. The important point is that Siri AI and iOS 27 are not the same eligibility tier: an iPhone may receive iOS 27 without supporting every Apple Intelligence feature.
Which iPhones support iOS 27?
MacRumors and Gadgets 360 report that iOS 27 continues support for the iPhone 11 generation and newer models, with compatible iPhone SE models also included.
Siri AI has stricter hardware requirements. Apple says Apple Intelligence and Siri AI support includes iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 models or later. That means users of older iPhones may still receive iOS 27 while missing some of the new AI capabilities.
What else is new in iOS 27?
Beyond Siri AI, iOS 27 includes refinements to Apple’s Liquid Glass design, new customisation controls, parental-control improvements and changes across apps such as Safari, Photos, Phone and Messages. Reports also highlight practical additions such as separate volume controls and more flexible widgets.
For many users, these smaller changes may be just as noticeable in daily use as the new AI features.
Should you install iOS 27 immediately?
If your iPhone is compatible and you want the newest Siri and Apple Intelligence features, iOS 27 is an important update. However, users who depend on specific business apps or accessories may prefer to wait briefly for early compatibility feedback before upgrading a work-critical device.
It is also sensible to back up the iPhone before installing a major operating-system update and make sure there is enough free storage and battery power available.
What iPhone users should watch next
The biggest question is how Siri AI performs outside beta testing with millions of users. Apple is positioning the iPhone as a central device for personal AI, so reliability, language availability and real-world usefulness will matter more than the number of announced features.
